Phoenix Books
Event and publicity manager for multiple locations at Phoenix Books, a locally owned group of bookstores in Essex, Burlington, and Rutland, Vermont.
Hired in 2008 as a bookseller by Mike DeSanto and Renée Reiner, I was quickly promoted to Publicity Manager. With the opening of Phoenix’s Burlington location in 2012, I took on the role of Event Manager, coordinating a high-volume events program across two (and later three) locations.
For seven years, I managed communications with authors, publishers, and press; scheduled and coordinated events; and worked with store managers, buyers, and booksellers to develop event programming. I maintained the store’s website, produced monthly e-newsletters, established protocols for publicizing and preparing for each event, and led regular event planning meetings with staff.
As I transitioned to focus on conferences and community-based projects, I trained and supervised event assistants and eventually trained my replacement, helping to ensure continuity of the events program.
